Dr Bilkis Banu Adamjee, originally from KZN, completed her degree in medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand and thereafter moved to Bloemfontein to practice as a General Practioner (GP) with her brother, Dr MF Adamjee. She took an interest in skin conditions and decided to further specialise in the field of Dermatology through the University of the Free State. She completed her residency at National District Hospital and thereafter stayed on at the academic hospital for 10+ years as a senior specialist. During her time in the academic sector, Dr BB was involved in the training and teaching of medical students, registrars and GP's as well as being the acting Head of Department, when necessary. Dr BB left the academic hospital to go into full-time private practice with Dr MF in 2014.
Dr BB regularly attends conferences and workshops, both locally and internationally, to stay informed on the latest developments and information regarding skin conditions and treatments. She has also published articles in well-known journals and textbooks. She is member of the Dermatology Society of South Africa (DSSA) and the South African Society for Dermatologic Surgery (SASDS).
Dr BB is a Dermatologist currently in private practice with Dr Mohamed Farouk Adamjee (Ophthalmologist) in Bloemfontein, Free State. She is passionate about the field of Dermatology and her extensive knowledge and experience has helped to improved the quality of life for many of her patients. Dr BB has a special interest for the medical side of Dermatology however, she has knowledge of and performs some cosmetic procedures as well.
The skin can sometimes be an indicator of a systemic condition and may lead to its diagnosis.
A common skin condition that usually presents in adolescents but is now more commonly being seen in adults. It can even be seen in newborns.
These include fungal (superficial, such as ringworm, or deep), bacterial (such as cellulitis, impetigo, boils or TB), viral (such as warts, cold sores, chickenpox or shingles).
Pigmentation disorders may be psychologically devastating. They include loss of pigmentation (such as vitiligo or albinism) or increase in pigmentation (such as melasma or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation).
May present in childhood or adulthood. There are different types of eczema with different treatments, so a detailed history and examination need to be done.
Exposure to sun can result in various skin conditions, which range from eczema to burns and skin cancers.
Hair loss can also have major psychological impact. There are diffferent causes, so a detailed history and examination need to be done.

For cash consultations, the receptionist will confirm the basic consultation fee.
If any other tests are necessary, the Dr will discuss the final amount with you.
If a prescription is issued for medication, you will have to purchase it from your pharmacy of choice.
Once the paperwork is done, the Dr will take a medical history and do an examination of your skin.
The Dr will discuss her findings with you, provide additional information, answer any questions you may have and discuss a management plan. If necessary, a follow-up appointment will be made.
